Review Summary:

As far as disaster preparedness food goes, Wise Food Storage does a few things differently than the typical emergency food retailer. They are also widely regarded as one of the top dealers available online. They specialize in food and food only, for the most part. Because of this, they are often times able to deliver better retail value than a company that gets its fingers into every disaster survival niche. They also advertise their food packages by the total number of servings (their serving measurement is 1 cup), instead of calorie count. This can make it a little easier for some to figure out the quantities they should get.

About Wise Food Storage

Wise Company LogoThe company was founded in 2008. A partnership with Food For Health International was disbanded, and Wise Food Storage was created. At that time most prepper food companies presented their offerings in #10 cans. As a change from the traditional process, in a move which helped the company save money while still delivering long-lasting food, Wise Food was delivered in metallic mylar designed pouches. This packaging process is now commonplace in the industry, and Wise was the innovator that developed it.  These mylar pouches are packaged in small portions to reduce waste, so you only have to open what you need to use.  The pouches are packed within food grade buckets that easily stack for convenient storage that does not require shelving.  The buckets also include sturdy handles for easy transporting, and effectively protect the food pouches from becoming pierced or damaged.

The Wise Company is more than a reseller.  Their success allowed them to become involved in their own manufacturing, allowing them more control regarding the quality of ingredients used in their products as well as oversight concerning the availability of these ingredients through the supply chain. Their contributions to the manufacturing process have also supported expansion with product development as well.

The company boasts shelf life up to 25 years, some of the highest customer ratings for quality and convenience in the survival food marketplace, and a “Made in the USA” designation. Such notables in the survival and emergency preparedness fields as survival specialist Ruth England and National Geographic’s Doomsday Preppers give their backing to Wise Food products. They have also received endorsements from Marie Osmond and Dave Ramsey.

Products and Services

As was mentioned above, Wise is basically a “food only” disaster preparedness retailer. In recent years they have added some emergency supplies. But the meat of the website, pardon the pun, is long-term, freeze-dried and dehydrated food for emergency preparedness and outdoor use.  The majority of products are extremely easy to prepare by just adding water. With limited resources during a survival situation, simplicity is your friend.

From the top of any web page you see the following 4 product tabs:

Quality, Value & Ease of Use

This area is where you have to do some thinking if you are comparison shopping. Many online disaster prep food retailers list their products by the number of calories they provide per package or unit. Wise mentions the number of servings you can expect to get from each of their offerings.

For example, the company sells a 7 Day Ultimate Emergency Meal Kit for 2 Adults which packs 116 total servings. The product details reveal that this is 3 big meals per day for 2 people for 1 week, providing more than 2,000 calories and 100 grams of protein per day. Using their math (42 meals), this comes to a little more than $6 per meal per person.

Not bad value, considering the shelf life of 7 years and the easy to stack square bucket design. Several shipping options are included, which obviously drives your overall price up just a bit. Pricing is in line with other survival and outdoor food suppliers, higher than some and lower than others.

Promotions and Offers

From time to time, Wise runs promotions on pricing and shipping. For instance, one month you may receive free extra items when you order certain packages. Other months, free shipping is a handy bonus. At any time you can request a free sample, and call the company’s toll-free number to speak with a food storage expert. The company also offers a 100% quality guarantee, as well as promotions which can drop your per serving cost to as low as $1.
